Dr. Apples: The Psychic Chronicles - Mission Statement

Storytelling, an ancient and powerful artform, serves as a conduit for knowledge, understanding, and cultural legacy. As an African American woman, I am deeply aware of the countless ancestral narratives lost in the shadows of the African diaspora. Yet, even in loss, there are surviving echoes, fragments of folklore that are now stepping into the light of the modern information era. My project, Dr. Apples, is a dark fantasy that delves into these forgotten tales.

Dr. Apples is a story set in motion by the disappearance of a ninety-five-year-old African American sorcerer's mother, taken by fairies in New Orleans. Each year, he receives a doll from the fairies, each embodying a piece of her essence. These dolls, traditionally seen as tools of domestication and control, here symbolize lost history, a quest for discovery, and the journey to self-realization.

As a self-taught multidisciplinary artist, my mission is to bring the rich lore of Dr. Apples to life through various media – art, podcasts, storytelling, film, writing, and more. This endeavor is not just a creative pursuit; it's an expression of my heritage and a reclamation of ancestry. Dr. Apples navigates the often-taboo realms of hoodoo, spiritualism, and mythical folklore, inviting audiences to explore these marginalized narratives.

In today’s world, where stories have often been overshadowed or rewritten by colonial perspectives, Dr. Apples is a beacon directing attention to these sidelined tales. My journey, marked by sacrifices and relentless dedication, aims to share Dr. Apples' unique blend of Southern culture, vernacular, and folklore with a wider audience. This is more than a story; it’s an invitation to join in the search for Dr. Apples' mother, and perhaps, in the process, to embark on a journey of self-discovery.
